Donald Joseph "Don" Kasun

Born September 11, 1929 - Died July 6, 2005

Donald Joseph "Don" Kasun was born in Wheeling, West Virginia on 11 September 1929 and was appointed to West Point from the 2nd Congressional District.

His West Point classmates recall: "Don came to West Point from out of the friendly hills of West Virginia. Contrary to popular belief, he wore shoes; and he could read and write. In true mountaineer style he grappled with the 'plebe system' and threw it on its back. After four years at this institution and after summer training trips through the South and the West, Don still says, 'There ain't no place like them thar hills.'"

During his cadet days Don went out for Golf all four years and was a Cadet Sergeant his first class year.

On graduation Don went in the Corps of Engineers and after completing the Basic Engineers Course at Fort Belvoir, Virginia he reported to his first assignment. In 1955 he resigned his First Lieutenant's commission and pursued a career in civilian life.

Don and his wife Annke made their home in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Annke preceded Don in death. They had five children.
Don died on July 6, 2005.
