The 173rd Airborne was Westmoreland's fire brigade in VN. We bled a lot for him. And, he never forgot. Through all the years of reunions and memorial services, he was a constant presence. As faithful as we were to him, so was he to us. It was not easy duty for either of us. But, we played the hand dealt, and left footprints in history that only time can judge. I first saw him when I was a new cadet at West Point in '61, and last, at a class mini reunion in Charleston around '99. Always a commanding figure, he will continue to cast a long shadow. Good memories of a proud warrior.. we'll miss you.. |
