Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Robbin Hafen on July 28, 2005:

Jay was my wingman, battle buddy, and brother in arms for the whole time I was in Command of A Troop. As OPFOR we combined our two Troops to form a Motorized Infantry Battalion and fought many battles together at the National Training Center. He and I talked all the time and helped each other get through all of the difficult deployment challenges we had at Ft. Irwin and Kuwait. When we were in Iraq together he was the only person who I could talk to about all the stressful challenges we were dealing with.

I spent an hour talking to him on 8 April 2005, before I left for Mosul. We enjoyed some cigars together and talked about our plans and dreams for the future. Little did I know that it would be the last time I would see him alive. It hurts so much to loose a good friend like that. I feel an emptiness that I do not think will ever be filled.

I will never forget you Jay. Your example of dedication to your family and your soldiers will inspire me for the rest of my life. Rest in Peace my Brother. I look forward to seeing you again on the other side.
