Be Thou At Peace

| Gordon straddled many worlds: soldier, medical scholar, moral philosopher, writer. And despite a succession of personal tragedies, he endured to share his pain and epiphanies with all of us. His moral voyage brought him into conflict with an establishment unprepared to critically examine the transformative events of the century just past--events that cast a harsh light on the exercise of military power, that forged a new social contract through the liberation of minorities and women, and the changing form of American society. He was and remains our collective conscience. I wish his family memories of triumph and grace. |
