Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Richard D Mencl on August 5, 2017:

Then Captain Floyd Donald Whitehead, as Delta Battery Commander for Class 8-66 at the Artillery and Missile Officer Candidate School, Ft Sill, Oklahoma, seriously took the responsibility of shaping 100 raw officer candidates into second lieutenants. Under Captain Whitehead's demonstrated leadership any one of us, if directed to jump off a bridge would have done it without question. Some candidates could not understand his strict attention to detail and the concepts of duty, honor, and country and, as a result, Captain Whitehead had them released from the School. Every officer who graduated with Class 8-66 looked up to and appreciated all the lessons we had learned from Captain Whitehead. Those lessons served me well throughout my 29 years of service and my life afterward. Thank you, Floyd Donald Whitehead.
