Be Thou At Peace
Posted by Erik Lewis on May 19, 2018:
Arnold Winter was my cousin on my mother's side - Gloria Day Lichtenthal Lewis. How exactly we were related I really never understood. But Arnold was there for me when I needed bucking up, someone I could turn to for both sympathy and good worldly advice. And he was fun to be with, always seeming to know what to do. I remember him driving me to a diner for lunch in his vintage Cadillac and relating some of the tribulations of his life. Being younger I had little to offer him in advice. He and his wife Arlene got a kick out of my impetuosity in hitchhiking cross country and dropping in on them. They made me feel special. I lost touch with Arnold in recent years and I'm sorry I did. I would have liked to see him now. Learning now of his death, it's possibly a comfort to know that he is mourned anew now in May of 2018 when I'm writing this. Goodbye cousin Arnold. I'll miss you.
