My thoughts and prayers go out to the Hines family and all his friends and teammates at St. John's, West Point, and the Army. I met Derek at West Point and knew him as a tough kid with solid character and personality. We were from the same state and shared many of the same friends. Being here in Afghanistan, the news has hit me like a ton of bricks and I think I am still in shock over the whole thing. I just feel lucky to have known him...he was certainly a true hero and is missed beyond words. Tucker Mahoney '02 |
