Twice deployed as a reservist to Iraq after 911, I repeatedly witnessed the continual excellance of Lieutenant Kevin Smith of the 3rd Infantry Division. He and his unit provided Force Protection for our convoys of the 352nd Civil Affairs Command. Later I was saddened to learn this fine officer had been killed on one of these critical missions.Reflecting on Lieutenant Smith's unwavering sense of duty, I am reminded of the biblical citation of Isiah 6:8: "And I heard the voice of the Lord saying 'Whom shall I send? Who will go for us?" Lieutenant Smith responded over and over again. He saw his duty and gave his life protecting others. |
