To the Hines Family, We wanted to write and tell you all how sorry we are at the loss of Derek. We can only imagine how devastated you must be. We are parents of a 2003 graduate who was also a lax player. Mrs. Hines, I'm sure you don't remember but on R Day or Acceptance Day when we were riding one of those buses that took the parents around, I happened to be sitting in front of you and we started comparing notes on our sons. Our son was also a hockey player in high school and perhaps that's why I remembered Derek's name. During Nick's time at West Point we always went to see one or two of the hockey games and so we also got to see Derek play. I'm not sure if we ever met him, but Nick always spoke of him and what a great person he was. You have all been in our thoughts and prayers all this week.
