Smitty, as we he was known to all his C-1 classmates, was a great friend and soldier. Recall our storming NYC over a long weekend during the Cuban Missile Crisis and having one great eat, drink and merry time ! Mostly though Smitty was serious without being too serious and very smart without being too smart -- and a great athlete to boot. How could the Army and the Corps of Engineers go wrong? They didn't as Smitty was a superb soldier and model for all who crossed paths with him. Well done Smitty! Dick Roberts |
