Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Sally Jessel on September 30, 2005:

Uncle Bob was an inspiration for so many members of our family. He was a mentor to my nephew, Karl Wingenbach, another West Point graduate, as well as to other neices an nephews who have chosen the Military as a career. Even though my own children, Rikki and Michael, chose the Air Force, he always supported their endeavors. One of the last things he passed on was how proud he was that his great-neice Rikki Stewart, is going to Officer's Candidate School to become an officer and then further down the road, to be a C-130 pilot. Poetically, her graduation from OCS will occur on Uncle Bob's birthday. And one of his favorite stories to tell was when he was visiting Louisville in 1983 for a Louisville vs Army game and he happened to be at my mother's house when I came home 6 hours after having my youngest son, Michael. He could not believe he got to hold his great-nephew when he was only 6 hours old in the comfort of my mother's home. That young man is now an Air Force Military Police Officer and has always looked up to Uncle Bob.
Uncle Bob and Aunt Betsy have always been the most beautiful couple I have ever known. Their love for each other was evident in everything they did. Their love of their family, children, siblings, nephews and neices is inspiring. Uncle Bob will be missed, yet, his legacy will live forever. I Love You Uncle Bob!!!
