Be Thou At Peace

Posted by John Ward on March 23, 2021:

Walt and I were roommates during our first class year at the academy and he was a very close and dear friend. He was an outstanding cadet in all respects, ranking very high both academically and militarily. He earned a monogram on the academy track team and he ushered and was a member the chapel choir. Upon graduation his high academic standing enabled him to obtain his branch of choice, the Army Corps of Engineers. He had successful careers in both the military and in civilian life. After retiring from active duty at the rank of colonel he had an equally successful career as a professional engineer as evidenced by his being given the job as the construction manager of multi-million dollar indoor football stadium, home at the time, of the St. Louis Rams profession football team. Walt was a true Christian and although he is no longer with us on earth, he will always remain alive in my memory. To paraphrase the last stanza of the West Point Alma Mater - his work is done, his course on earth is run and it may be said WELL DONE, be thou at peace.
