I was a HAWK fire control Staff Sergeant and section chief in Alpha Battery, 4th Battalion, 1st ADA Regiment in Pirmasens, West Germany in 1990. Lieutenant Denny was my assistant platoon leader, and we had just been put together as Tactical Control Officer and Radar Operator. I always respected and admired her quiet professionalism and eagerness to learn. I "adopted" her as a little sister and tried to ease her way with the enlisted soldiers. I made a few quiet suggestions which she always heeded. We spent long hours in the Platoon Command Post (fire control trailer), honing our skills as a team. I got to know her a bit and admired and adored her. Her loss crushed Alpha Battery, but we dedicated our NATO Tactical Evaluation to her and crushed it. It has been 31 years since we lost you, Ma'm. But I think of you often and still love you dearly. |
