Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Adam Nordin on May 31, 2021:

Phil,

When I read your eulogy, even over a decade later, it still startled me like it's the first time. What's worse, is the war is starting to feel so distant now. Not that it's a bad thing to not have to deploy anymore, but that I have to dive deep into my memory bank to recover those moments. .

COVID is winding down, Biden is President, and we are drawing down from the Middle East. I'm not sure it'll last, but this is the longest I've gone without deploying- nearly 2 years. Sadly, I was 'deployed' to the NCR with my brigade from the 82d when Trump tried to suppress Black Lives Matter protesters in DC. It has been a wild year even without a combat deployment.

I wish you could be here now- to see this mess through. The cost of war is so high, and the toll so permanent. I want you to know your sacrifice was not in vain- many of us are still here, standing tall, staying sharp, and keeping our foes in check so that those we've lost can lay at rest.

You are not forgotten, my brother.
