Be Thou At Peace

Greetings from Manila, Philippines! Memorial Day 2022 here is bright and sunny -- and a good time to remember my West Point classmate, Larry Dapra. Larry went to Highland Falls High School, just like my wife, Esther, although he graduated one year ahead of her. I bought the wedding ring for my bride-to-be at a jewelry store owned by Larry's uncle. Larry and I shared many a classroom together, although we were in different Companies. I remember him as the shy and quiet type. But he was always friendly, with a ready smile for everyone. Larry and I parted ways on Graduation Day and our paths never crossed again, not even in Vietnam. We each had our military careers -- he with the US Air Force, and I with the Philippine Army. We did re-connect after retirement -- and we shared a few emails with each other. And now, my final salute to an old friend! Brigadier General Ramon M. Ong (Retired) Armed Forces of the Philippines |
