Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Patrick Zelley on November 9, 2005:

I can say, without a doubt, that my dad was as proud of West Point and his classmates as anyone could possibly be. He had so many great memories about the black, and gold, and grey. I remember so many names that were part of his life...Joe Blackgrove, Bob Foley, Mike Natvig, etc. He was so proud to be all of your friends.

My dad died of a sudden heart attack at 46 years old. No suffering. He was blessed to go out with everything going well in his life. A wonderful marriage and two sons who loved him dearly. He wasn't always right (although he would argue like he thought he was), but he was always loyal to the things and the people that mattered most to him. I think if he had been forced to pick one place where his soul would remain forever, it would have been USMA. He, unfortunately, was not alive when I decided to go to West Point, but I always felt his presence during the four years I was there.

To those in the Class of '63...he never stopped caring about you.

God Bless,
Patrick Zelley ('94)
