| My father, L.A. Cookman USMA 1945, was laid to rest on June 13th, 2022 at the West Point Cemetery. After service with the occupation forces in Germany the Army sent him to Ohio State for his graduate degree in electrical engineering. Posted back to West Point in 1951 as an Instructor in the Department of Electricity until July 1954. Upon his resignation he served for decades as the Director of Administration for IBM Research retiring in 1986. He and my mother retired to Hendersonville, NC. He often said that the happiest times of his life were spent at West Point; when he arrived at West Point in July 1942 he considered himself the luckiest man on earth. He died just shy of his 99th birthday wearing his West Point sweatshirt. Duty, Honor, Country. |
