Charles Edwin Bryant

Born October 20, 1927 - Died November 22, 2005

Charles Edwin "Charlie" Bryant was born in Dallas, Texas on 20 October 1927 and was appointed to West Point as a Qualified Alternate.

His West Point classmates recall: "Although bewildered the first day, Charlie has managed to maintain his 'Texas-style humor' and inject into the routine of those dreary academic days a light side of everything. Denying his 'southern drawl,' his roommates invariably have been falsely accused of being 'rebels' from his influence. 'Jug,' the stout boy, steps into the Army with a stride of his own."

During his cadet days Charlie went out for Football, was on the Hop Committee and with the Chapel Choir all four years, earning Numerals and a Monogram in Football; went out for Lacrosse plebe year; was with the Glee Club yearling, cow and first class years; and was a Cadet Lieutenant his first class year."

Upon graduation Charlie went in the Artillery and after completing the Basic Artillery Course at Fort Sill, Oklahoma reported to Fort Meade, Maryland and served there from 1951 to 1952. His next assignment was to the 64th Field Artillery Battalion, 25th Division in Korea. Charlie resigned his commission as a First Lieutenant in 1954.

In 1957 Charlie accepted a position with Hercules Aero Space as Product Manager and in 1972 was named Marketing Manager for Rockwell International. Charlie retired from Rockwell in 1989. Charlie and his wife Sally made their home in Waco, Texas. The May 1991 Assembly noted, "In Waco, Charlie and Sally are doing great. With wonderful help and support from Sally, Charlie has made a tremendous recovery from his stroke in 1988. Still attending therapy twice a week to help recover muscle response, Charlie walked with the aid of a cane and drove a little, which provided a sense of freedom.

Charlie died of pancreatic cancer and complications of diabetes.
