Be Thou At Peace
Posted by Stephanie Simonich on August 5, 2023:
The world lost a special person on 29 June 2023. While to most here he was known as Sim or Scooter, to me, he was just Dad. He was the man who played a role in my life for 41 years. He was the man who came home in uniform and quickly changed to a "Real Men Wear Pink" shirt. He taught me the difference between Apache and Blackhawk helicopters and how to read military symbols and ranks. He is the reason I do the work that I do today. He taught me that girls can use tools and do anything boys can do. He taught me to sail and how to make the boat look like a butterfly by catching the wind just right. He was my soccer and softball coach just as an excuse to run laps and play the outfield. He learned how to groom and tack a horse when I was still too short and weak to do it myself. He attended my horse shows, color guard shows and dance recitals. He moved me in and out of college and attended graduations. He walked me down the aisle and was my safety net when life got rough. He had high standards, but stressed that happiness was the most important. He always had a solution to my problems and an exciting story about his day. But most of all, he was Dad and he will be dearly missed.
