Mr. and Mrs. Zean G. Gassmann of Olney received word from the War Department Monday night that their son, 2nd Lt. Zean G. Gassmann Jr., age 22, was missing since March 18, 1946, in a flight over the Palawan Islands in the Philippines.

Lt. Gassmann, popularly known as "Bubby", left the States for duty in the Philippines on February 1, 1945, and was stationed with the 18th Fighter Group on Palawan, which is the western island of the Philippines group.

He graduated from the Olney High School in 1941 and later attended the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, where he graduated and received his commission on June 5, 1945.

Following his graduation, Lt. Gassmann was stationed at Foster Field, Texas, and the Junior Officers' School at Orlando, Florida, before receiving his overseas assignment at a P-51 base.

He was married on December 17, 1945, to Mrs. Jane Carol (nee Kaufman) Gassmann, who resides in New York City.

The popular young man's parents were advised by the Adjutant General that further information would be promptly forwarded to them.

Mr. Gassmann is Superintendent of the Division of Foods and Dairies for Illinois, a branch of the State Department of Agriculture.
