He was the son of James Burton Crary and Ruth Morrell Crary.
On Wednesday, June 6, 1945, he married Miriam Jensen (1920-2016), daughter of Luhr Jensen of Hood River, Oregon at the Holy Trinity Chapel at West Point, New York. The ceremony was performed by the Right Reverend Monsignor George Murdock.
They were the parents of three children including Ruth Crary Whitcomb (1946-2014).
In 1954, Miriam Jensen Crary married William Charles Danner.
She died on November 4, 2016 at Willamette, Oregon.
