I was Colonel Richard X. Larkin's driver 1974 - 75 at Ft. Carson Colorado when he was Brigade Commander. I was a young PFC, driving the colonel in the sedan or the Jeep in the field. As a young enlisted driver I did not converse much with the senior officer but we did a bit and in almost a year's time you do get a sense for a person you deal with almost daily. I thought of this exceptional person a lot throughout my life. He impressed me for the person he was and what I sensed of his inner life when I was in his presence. I felt privileged to have had this chapter in my life that allowed me to know him. |
