Russ was my friend. His loss from my life placed a heavy burden on my heart. His picture with a personal note to me sits on the end table in the living room where I see him every day. To say I miss him is an understatement. Many times after June 15, 2023, I read or saw something and thought I needed to tell Russ, but then I remembered that is impossible. I met Russ through the Class of 1957 website looking for someone to critique my book that has chapters about West Point in it. I made my character a member of the class of 1957. From that point, both through email and phone calls we became good friends and spoke often as he corrected my mistakes and read my new scenes. Our conversations went beyond the book, talking football, politics, West Point, and many other things. I think I miss those things the most as we talked about everything. I am but one of many Russ put a finger on and touched a life and made a friend. He joked often and I miss that laughter. Russ, thank you so much for being my friend. I miss you. Be thou at peace.
