| Fred and I were posted to Company L-1 after Beast Barracks. We were part of the new policy of eliminating Runt and Flanker sizing of cadet companies. Along with John Olson, Bill Byrne, Ron Bailey, John Vann,and Bruce Raybeck, we all added height to L-1. But Fred stood out amongst us. His deep voice and New England accent were unique. Fred was slow to move, adding a sense of calm to frenetic situations. Unfortunately, our paths did not cross after graduation; but I always had wonderful recollections of Fred as part of my Plebe and Yearling experiences. Rest In Peace, Fred! |
