Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Stanley S. Fracker III on May 26, 2024:

My heartfelt condolences and prayers to the Steve Perryman family. I apologize for not posting sooner. It saddens me that someone else who must have crossed paths with Steve either at USMA or active duty hasn't made a post. I do not recall having any connection with Steve either at the academy or on active duty. My connection regards a single telephone call he made to me in 2008. It was brief and informative. It was one only a caring person would take the time to make. Somehow, he had received word I was struggling with prostate cancer and called to see if I was aware of recent VA policy changes that were allowing for treatment and benefits regarding exposure to Agent Orange. I'm certain I was neither the first nor the last person to whom he reached out. But it spoke volumes to me about a person I wished I had either gotten to know at West Point or served with on active duty. His suggestion most certainly has provided me with an improved quality of life over the last sixteen years. I did send a card to Steve thanking him for helping me through a most difficult time. Thanks, Steve, for caring and sharing your own prostrate cancer experience.
