Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Pat Kenny on June 14, 2024:

John and I were roommates as plebes in Co E-1 along with Tom Wiley. John was the old guy in the room after 2+ years at UCLA, but not by much; by January plebe year all 3 of us were 21 years old. Another eulogy mentioned John's exuberance, somewhat of an understatement, ideas came out of his head at an incredible pace. One of those idea was that West Point needed a crew team. It was an idea he had as a cadet, and he never let it die. I do not know the details but know John had a big hand in making it happen. Dan Donaghy mentioned that John, as Chairman of the Ring and Crest Committee, encouraged him to come up with the design of the class crest that we have today. Both represented the class as part of our affiliation with the class of 2015 at the unveiling of their class crest. As others have mentioned John was always fun to be around frequently filling the area with his hearty laugh. You left your mark, John, be thou at peace.
