Be Thou At Peace

Tim was one tough classmate and his battles with cancer were protracted. I'm sure he went down swinging.

Tim was one of our most heroic classmates (Distinguished Service Cross in 'Nam). He had a full career rising to BG. Tim was also a class act- always a kind and generous gentleman. I had a great opportunity to engage with him after we both retired, especially in the USMA Golfing Grads (USMA GGs) which was formed back in the mid-90s by our classmate Danny Willson and his brother Tyler ('60). He was always helpful giving his participating classmates lessons so that we were ready to compete with the other classes. I remember especially him teaching me his famous drop shot which he demonstrated off of concrete. Back in the first 15 years of GGs, our class reigned supreme in the competition with the classes of '60, '61, '62, '64 etc. This was due in large part to Tim, and our other good golfers (Farris, Boice, etc. and one ringer -- Danny Jr. i.e. Danny's son).

Tim and I also enjoyed our many talks. I remember him telling me he drowned and was pronounced dead in a pool in Walnut Creek as a child. Apparently, his mother refused to accept the initial verdict and insisted on efforts to revive him. Fortunately for us, he was brought back. We also talked much about Ross Perot. Tim had been his HR Director after retiring and I had been the Deputy and then Acting Program Manager for VIABLE- a $1 billion dollar Army ten year contract won over IBM. It put Ross's company EDS on the map in 1993 and it enjoyed a very successful implementation. EDS was re-awarded the contract in 2003.

We have lost a stellar classmate and I for one will miss him very much.
