Mike Leonard and I were roommates with Lou yearling year in K2. We kept in touch with Lou during his final days. Lou went to a Jesuit high school and inspired me to later become Catholic. Lou taught me how to multiply numbers in my brain as they did in his school rather than to write numbers on paper. For example, what is 25 times 25? Think 25 times 10 is 250, twice, and 250 plus 250 equals 500. And 5 times 25 is 125. Add 500 to 125 and the answer is 625. I still multiply numbers that way, and think of Lou. |
