Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Mark "Doc" Dillon on August 26, 2024:

The other eulogies for Mike are far more expressive than mine, however, let me add my very intensely felt remembrance, as I earlier wrote to his B-1 colleagues in care of Ed Quinn.
Ed,
As you may remember, I was very pleased to see and talk with Mike at the reunion, since he and I were 2d Beast Squad Leader and Assistant in Summer 1967.
I feel like I was remiss not keeping in closer touch with him, as I truly respected him as a person and as a colleague for this challenge. He was generally the 'good cop' while I was a bit of a hard ass, and tried to run out our underachieving new cadets.
My sincere condolences to B-1 companymates and to Mike's family, I trust you will pass that on for me,
Doc
Two additional thoughts; Mike also rightfully gave me a very hard time when my leadership flagged on a miserable marchback from Lake Frederick. I still respect him for that, which I am glad that I reminded him at the 55th. As fellow Signal Corps-men, we were never stationed together after Ft. Gordon, which is also isappointing.
A good man, "what you see is what you get," taken at a high point in his life.
