In Remembrance of Jon Anderson -- 21 Years On
[First published on AOG Website September 25, 2024]
Today marks 21 years since Jon Anderson left us in a tragic flying accident, a loss that still weighs heavily on our hearts. My wife Gale and I continue to miss Jon deeply, feeling his absence most acutely on this day each year. While we mourn the immense loss of a beloved friend, we also find comfort in celebrating the remarkable man he was and the lasting impact he had on our lives.
From the day we first became roommates at West Point, Jon and I forged a bond that spanned decades- through the rigors of school, into civilian life, and throughout our shared career as partners in law. More than that, Jon was a constant in our lives- a best friend, a groomsman at our wedding, and an unwavering source of support and encouragement. It was Jon who inspired me to take up the law, a decision that changed the course of my life in ways I could never have imagined. Our partnership was one of trust, respect, and a shared passion for justice.
But Jon gave me more than just professional guidance. He brought Betsy into our lives when they married, and with her came a deep and lasting friendship for Gale and me. Together, Jon and Betsy raised two remarkable daughters, Sloan and Devon, whose lives are a testament to their parents' values. Jon's legacy lives on not just in his daughters, but in the kindness, dedication, and love they share with their own families today.
As a lawyer, Jon exemplified professionalism and integrity. His clients were fortunate to have a loyal and capable advocate in their corner. His peers in the Bar benefited from his wisdom and willingness to mentor. It is a fitting tribute that the local Bar's annual professionalism award bears Jon's name, ensuring that his commitment to ethical practice and respect for the law continues to inspire future generations.
On this solemn day, we remember Jon with love, admiration, and gratitude. We are better for having known him, and his legacy continues to touch lives through the family he adored, the friends he cherished, and the profession he elevated.
Grip hands, classmates and fellow West Pointers, as we honor this wonderful man. Be thou at peace, dear friend.
Ralph and Gale Artigliere
