REF: My friend Dennis. Dennis and I became friends during my time as WP Deputy Athletic Director. He had coached when assigned to USMA and was associate athletic director at Syracuse University after retirement from the Army. During NCAA regional tournament at SU, University of Louisville senior associate AD asked Dennis if he knew anyone who would be a good candidate to be the manager of Louisville's new (uncompleted) football stadium. Dennis recommended that they call me. We still live in Louisville. This act by Dennis represents a small favor that reflected the large character of Dennis. Luckily we were able to cross paths frequently in the college athletic world. He was a selfless servant to his friends and our whole class as reunion chairman. A man of faith and action. We all lost a great classmate and friend. Rest in piece Denny Helsel |
