Be Thou At Peace

Posted by William H. Ward, '69 on March 17, 2025:

Since about the mid-teens (2015 plus or minus), I was fortunate to have at least three personal email exchanges with Wayne.

In the first, he told me "in confidence" of his developing heart condition.

In March 2021, in response to a "How's it going?" email, he related to me how a near "Ejection Factor" event during the 2019 "march back," providing details of the event, and the prognosis, which he related as "5 days, 5 months, or maybe five years before aother 'event' took me over."

In 2021 he summed up his condition as follows: "So far, so good. Treat every day as a gift from God and I can do most of what I enjoy. Trying to give as much as I can to family, friends, and country."

In June 2024, in response to another update request, he went into some detail of his declining condition, with the summation:

"Fortunately, in this day and age my computer and big screen TV give me a window on the world. There were some good aspects. Cannot drive . . . I have a very lovely chauffeur in Mary Ellen.

Every day is a gift. Faith, family, and friends are what really matters." He lasted until 4 Jan 2025.

I can't think of any eulogy I could conjure up that would state his legacy better.

What a GREAT asset and LOSS to the Class!
