Be Thou At Peace

A Tribute to LTC Jeffrey Roberts White, USMA Class of 1985
Lieutenant Colonel Jeff White, a proud member of the United States Military Academy Class of 1985, embodied the West Point ideals of Duty, Honor, Country throughout his distinguished career. As a leader, soldier, and patriot, he dedicated his life to the service of his nation, exemplifying the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and commitment. Tragically, he passed away on March 1, 2009.
From his time as a cadet at West Point and later, to his years as a Field Artillery officer in the United States Army, LTC White's career was marked by excellence in leadership and unwavering dedication to his soldiers and mission. His tactical expertise, mentorship, and steadfast resolve earned him the respect and admiration of all who had the privilege to serve alongside him. He had two cadet claims to fame: 1) his tremendous gift to our class was the original design of our class crest depicted here--he was a talented artist but more importantly, a trusted friend and loyal classmate and 2) he was known to ask the off the wall questions to any guest speaker when we had '85 class assemblies or Corps meetings. You always knew something was going to give when called upon he would respond with "Good evening, I am Cadet Jeff White and I wanted to ask this question...." The query would always bring concussion-type laughter from the audience and bound to bring an air of immediate confusion and quandry to the unsuspecting lecturer.
Beyond his military service, LTC White was a true friend, mentor, and role model, always willing to lend his guidance and support to those around him. His impact extended far beyond the battlefield, shaping the lives of countless individuals who drew strength and inspiration from the power of his example.
As we honor LTC Jeff White, we remember his selfless service, strong leadership, genuine love for his family, and enduring legacy as a proud member of the Long Gray Line. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, his West Point classmates, the people that he profoundly impacted and the West Point community, a testament to a life dedicated to service and sacrifice. The United States Military Academy Class of 1985 will commemorate their 40th Reunion from October 9 to 12, 2025, at West Point, New York. Jeff, we will always hold a place for you.
Be Thou At Peace! Your legacy endures and we in the Class of 1985 are reminded of that every time we glance at our class rings which we so proudly wear and especially when we get to attend our reunions and once again, be amongst friends and family. On a very happy note, I was informed that his son, James Jedidiah White, will be graduating with the USMA Class of 2025 on SAT, May 24, 2025, exactly 40 years and two days after his father. Although he will have already graduated by the time of our 40th Reunion, we in the Class of 1985 wish him all of the best in his military career.
