Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Donald Paul Walker on April 28, 2025:

I am sad to see my good friend from G-2, Jim Hogarth, has passed away. It's hard to believe he is gone. I'll always remember Jim's positive attitude and funny sense of humor. He liked to do crazy but fun things. I'll never forget going with him and Jim Collins (G-2,class of 77) to the West Point swimming pool. He climbed up to the top of the 10 m platform (about 33 feet high) and without hesitation, dove off head first. Then he went to the top of it a couple of more times, and dove off. Then he dared me, and I believe, Jim Collins, to do the same. We'll, I went to the top of the platform, looked down and thought to myself, man this is crazy and scary-- but Jim's fearlessness gave me the courage and sheer stupidity to dive off that platform. That experience helped me through other difficult situations I faced in the military and in my personal life. Well, we shared the difficulties of plebe year together and enjoyed many other good times together such as going to hops, rock concerts and West Point sports. Jim, you are missed. To you I say, "Well done, Jim. Be thou at peace." Your friend, Don.
