2nd Lt Mallard was my arms room officer in 2002, fresh out of the box as we used to say of new lieutenants.... As a corporal, I used to mess with him a little bit and I don't think he liked me all that much. 2 years later in Iraq we were heavily engaged on route Irish during a multiple RPG/complex ambush while he and his wingman were refueling. They dropped everything and came a runnin' After it was over, Lt. Mallard took a picture of me with a bandage on my face and my fist in the air while popped up out of the rear hatch of our Bradley.
