Be Thou At Peace
Posted by Hop Bailey on May 4, 2025:
George and I were classmates in E-4. I didn't room with George but he was a luminous presence as a cadet, with a wonderful cadet sense of humor which he never lost. After graduation he was the glue of E-4 for our class and the adjacent classes, visiting people around the country, attending Maryland mini-reunions, class reunions, and through notes and emails. He seemed perpetually happy and unhappy and always shared his introspections without filter. In recent years he suffered medical issues and faced those bravely and with his usual good humor. Many of his company mates gathered in St Louis in 2022 for a mini-reunion after his health issues began to limit his ability to travel. My wife and I last visited George in St Louis in September 2024 and it was clear he was struggling but his personality and sense of humor were intact. Briggita Mulligan was George's long-time significant other. She loved him deeply and helped him through these last transitions with great care and loyalty.
We will all miss George and will hold our memories close. Be thou at peace.
