Be Thou At Peace

Posted by John Wattendorf on May 12, 2025:

My wife, Adrienne, and I met Mike and Cheryl when we were stationed together in Germany for our first assignment after graduating USMA. Although I did not know Mike well during our time at West Point, we became close friends while serving with the 24th Engr Bn in Furth, Germany. Mike, Cheryl, Adrienne and I shared many a laugh together as we learned our new roles as officers, spouses, and parents. As so often happens, our various assignments over the ensuing years caused us to drift apart for most of our careers; however, we were blessed to become reacquainted in recent years. I distinctly recall the first time the four of us met for lunch a few years ago after many years apart. We quickly caught up on family and career highlights and our friendship was renewed as if we had never been apart for such a long time. We will miss him very much, but I am sure he is at peace. Mike was indeed "one of the really good guys." Well done, my friend, be thou at peace.
