Be Thou At Peace

J. It's 2025. I saw many of our classmates earlier this year at a pre command course, and I couldn't help but think of you and the others of us who are no longer here. It was like a reunion- seeing folks I haven't seen for 18+ years. The 'catch up' conversations always started and ended with deployments. I could tell as we all scanned our memories for the dates and places, we passed over the faces of those we left behind. Their names were never spoken, but you could see it in their eye and feel it in the room. I know I passed over your face many times- I still remember Jake telling me over VTC before a meeting that you were gone. That feeling sticks with you... you don't ever forget where you were when you find out one of your friends gave his last breath to his country and his team. I promise to honor you and your memory, particularly in the coming years as I attempt to transform kids into Soldiers. I only wish you were here doing this business with us. Until we meet again, brother. -Adam |
