Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Herb McGuire, CW3 Retired on June 7, 2025:

I served with Col Brown, in the 588th Engineer Battalion in Ft Polk La (1980-1984). When I first met him on a Cruise of The Locks in LA. He expressed to me that he was gonna keep an eye on me because he wasn't sure of my character or skills; I think my Appalachian Accent and my Lack of proper English made him question me. I assured him I would not let him down. He and I became dear friends and my respect for him was beyond reproach. He too respected me and we work well together. His military service and history was very impressive. I remember when he met his wife to be, it surprised all of us. He drove a Datsun 270 Sports Car, I believe. Bottom line, I was sitting here at the diner table and his memory came to me. I cherished him as one of my greatest leaders while I served.
