Jim Wire was my roommate for about a third of our time at USMA. He was quiet, unassuming, and had a heart of pure gold. In my mind he had no guile, a rare and special character trait. While that may sound somewhat trite it is exactly how I feel he led his life. To me, Jim exemplified Duty, Honor, Country and again that is not an attribute I say lightly. He would have tears when listening to General MacArthur's last address to the Corps. Occasionally I had to ask him to stop playing it so I could study without background emotion. Jim's apparent lack of interest and talent in academia was proven very wrong when, after Viet Nam, he went back to school and graduated with Master's degrees in both accounting and Information Technology. For many years he was the head of the Information Technology department at a major University. After retirement he continued to serve as a volunteer at local libraries to ensure their servers continued to do what he always strived to do, serve. Quite a change from our days together struggling with USMA's version of Fortran. Like his family, I will profoundly miss him. May God rest his soul.
