Jim Hennen was my Platoon Sergeant in 7th New Cadet Company in Beast Barracks in July-August 1974. I was a "skinny" kid from Texas who knew nothing about the Plebe System before I got to West Point. Several members of the Class of 1966 were trying to "run me out" of the Academy. They didn't think that I had what it took to be a graduate of the Academy. As a result, they weren't letting me eat in the Mess Hall. Jim saw what was happening, and he went to my Squad Leader and told him to "put Trollinger on my table and leave him alone." As a consequence, I was able to make it through Beast Barracks and graduate with the Class of 1968. Thanks, Jim, for saving me. |
