Be Thou At Peace
Posted by Nicholas Polachak on December 31, 2025:
On October 2, 2024, my former supervisor at Kodak, my friend and mentor, Edward Cattron, died at about 2am, after a long fight with Parkinsons disease. Ed was the best supervisor I ever had at Kodak. We met in the fall of 1982, when I went to work for him in Systems Engineering, on Project PF at the Kodak Hawkeye Plant in Rochester. I worked with him, there, for 4 years. In 1990, he asked me to join him in a pursuit effort to land a high-value contract with the IRS, related to tax system modernization. We won that program in 1993 and I worked on it until 1997. Though we parted company, we continued to get together with several of our former colleagues from the IRS Program. We got together with Ed, until about 3 years ago, when his health deteriorated too far to allow him to participate.
Ed was a graduate of the US military academy at West Point, Class of 1966. He served with the 2nd Batt., 504 Inf. Regt., 82nd Airborne Division, in South Vietnam, back in 1968. He was a platoon leader (out in the boonies), an Airborne Army Ranger, Pathfinder, Jumpmaster, a Pilot and Flight Instructor. He left the Army after 8 years with the rank of Captain, in 1973. He served two tours in Vietnam. He received the Silver Star, Bronze Star & Purple Heart.
As far as I was concerned, after my 45 year career, he was the best! His wife and high school sweetheart, Karen, followed him in death, less than 6 months later. God grant them eternal rest and may His perpetual light shine upon them!
