Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Mike Trollinger on April 8, 2026:

I served with Colonel Malone in 1971-1972 with the Military Equipment Team for Cambodia. At the time, he was a Lieutenant Colonel and the manager of the Logistics Team, MEDTC. Our office was in MACV headquarters, although our higher headquarters was CINC-PAC in Hawaii. There were about 120 members on the team, with 1/2 of them headquartered in Phnom Penh, and the other half in Saigon. We were tasked with executing the Military Assistance Program for Lon Nol and the Cambodian Army. On our team was Major Hank Buczek, Major Jim Kemble, Major Glen Vogel, and Captain Jay Rimer. I was a Captain also at the time. Every now and then, LTC Malone and I would play tennis at the local tennis club. Another thing I remember is that he was fluent in the Russian language and had served with the U.S. Embassy in Moscow. He spent some of his time interpreting Russian Field Manuals that the Army sent him. After I left Vietnam in February 1972, I never saw LTC Malone again, but I understand his was promoted to Colonel and given the command of an Army Depot in the U.S. Thanks for taking care of me, LTC Malone. We'll see each other again some day.
