J Jones. I think of you often. Our class is in the middle of our battalion commands. No doubt you'd be excelling past us all. A couple weeks ago I had an officer graduate from SFAS. I thought about 2 things: when I graduated years ago as a cadet and I thought about you. It's strange how are brains are hard-wired to the memories of our close friends. That seemingly benign events can bring forward something we thought was deeply buried. I want to be clear- buried and forgotten are distinctly different. Memories are buried so we control when we revisit them. Forgotten, in this context, is impossible. You will never be forgotten. I just hope I live up to you and others we've lost over the years. I am honored to have known you. Humbled by your sacrifice. And I cannot thank you enough for being the man you were. Until we meet again. -Adam |
