Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Jay Vaughn on June 10, 2026:

Paul and I first met in the 3d squad of the 3d platoon of 3rd New Cadet Company on 5 July 1961. We were two totally raw and clueless characters right out of high school. We later became Company E-1 roommates with our third amigo, Ben Whitehouse. The three of us stayed in trouble because of too much fun and laughter. We toured Europe together in a 3 cylinder French Panhard. He and Ben helped our family out with the wheat harvest in Oregon. We climbed Mount Hood together. Later in life we reunited for several more adventures including riding a hot air balloon, ziplining over the Grand Canyon, river rafting, and touring many Civil and Revolutionary War battlefields. This past fall we returned to the very room in the preserved Central Area 1st Division while at West Point for a football game. Paul was always ready for another adventure. He was one of the kindest, funniest, and most caring and loyal friends a guy could have. He devoted himself to caring for his beloved Nancy at the end of her days. I can hear his laugh today. We have lost one of the truly good guys in our class. I miss you, Pablo. Rest in Peace, dear brother.
