South Area has lost forever the skirl of his bagpipes, his revival hymns, and the shrieks of his tortured wife."

During his cadet days Bob went out for Boxing plebe year, for Hockey yearling year, was with the Ski and Camera Clubs all four years, with the Weight Lifting and German Clubs yearling, cow, and first class years, with the Forum his last year, with the Pistol Club cow and first class year, and was a Cadet Sergeant his first class year.

On graduation Bob went in the Armored Corps and after completing the Basic Armored Course at Fort Hood, Texas was assigned to the Tank Battalion with the 82nd Airborne Division where he served from 1951 to 1952. His next assignment was with the 89th Tank Battalion in Korea where he served until 1953.

In 1961 Bob returned to school, this time at Heidelberg University in Germany and completed the course in 1962 and was assigned to the Foreign Language Department at West Point where he taught German from 1962 to 1965.

In 1965 Bob was assigned to Headquarters, Military Assistance Command, Vietnam where he served until 1966. Bob's next military assignment was to Headquarters, 1st Support Brigade in the latter part of 1966.

In 1970 Bob accepted his last military assignment which was to Headquarters, General Staff Group where he served until 1971 when he was retired disabled as a Lieutenant Colonel.
