Carpenter, '58 Our flanker transplant in A-2, Tom joined our low dust cloud as a Firstie when he became our Regimental Commander. A remarkable man, a man you wanted to "have your back" in tough situations. Carpenter became a tanker, went to airborne and ranger schools, survived an air crash that killed George Walker, his debating partner. Tom commanded a battalion in Vietnam, earned two Silver Stars, became the aide to our 6th New Cadet Company TAC when he was CINCEUR, and stepped out early with one star. Brad considers him our finest classmate. His time in A-2, of course, blessed him and propelled him upward. Widowed in 2017, he carried on silently in Richmond, VA. until he joined his beloved Emily and son Stephen near George, Gen Trap, & Brad's Ann at West Point, just after the 250th Birthday of his beloved United States. RIP, distinguished friend, God has your back. |
