Ulmont was a resident of Scottsdale, Arizona at the time of his passing. He attended and graduated high school and Hutchinson Junior College. He served proudly in the Korean War and was awarded the Bronze Star and Silver Star upon his return. He is survived by his wife Barbara and daughter Linda (Kendree) Mendivil . A small family service with military honors was held July 20th. Ulmont Kendree graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, Class of 1949. Silver Star AWARDED FOR ACTIONS DURING Korean War Service: Army Division: 1st Cavalry Division GENERAL ORDERS: Headquarters, 1st Cavalry Division, General Orders No. 138 (1952) CITATION: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Ulmont Redvers Kendree, Jr., United States Army, for gallantry in action while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an armed hostile force while serving as a Platoon Leader in an Infantry Company of the 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division, in action against the enemy in Korea from 1950 to 1951. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army. Ulmont (Al) Kendree passed away peacefully, at age 91, on July 18, 2015. Al was born September 8, 1923 in Savanah, Missouri. He moved with his family often until settling in Hutchinson, Kansas which is where he attended and graduated high school and Hutchinson Junior College. Growing up, he was very active in Boy Scouts and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He went on to attend the U. S. Military Academy at West Point from which he graduated in 1949. After graduation he served proudly in the Korean War and was awarded the Bronze Star and Silver Star upon his return. After resigning from the Army with a rank of Captain in 1955, he joined Pacific Mutual Life Insurance in San Francisco to begin his 40 year-long distinguished career in the life insurance business. Al and his beloved wife of 60 years, Barbara (Billie), moved from Monte Sereno, California to Scottsdale, Arizona in 1997. For the next 14 years they enjoyed retirement, travel, grandchildren, and friends until health issues caused them to slow down in 2011. Al was a long time Rotarian as an active, and ultimately, honorary member of the Los Gatos California Rotary Club. He was an absolute believer in the Rotary Four-Way Test and lived it every single day of his life. Faith played a huge part in his life; most recently he was a member of Valley Presbyterian Church in Paradise Valley, Arizona. Those who passed before him include his father Jack, mother, Mary, Stepmother Gertrude, loving wife Billie, and his brother Jack. He is survived by his son Dan Kendree of Tempe, Arizona, daughter-in-law Kathy, daughter Linda (Kendree) Mendivil of Oak Park, California, son-in-law Steve Mendivil, and grandchildren Courtney, Carrie, and Anna Mendivil, and Sam, Erica, and Amy Kendree. Al was kind, gracious, honest, and a loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather. He will be missed by many, and will be loved forever.
