Bill was born November 2, 1925 in Honolulu, Hawaii. His parents, Captain and Mrs. Alexander Cummings, were stationed at Schofield Barracks where Captain Cummings commanded an Infantry company. Bill attended secondary schools in San Antonio, Texas and San Francisco, California and graduated from Clinton (SC) High School in 1942. He enlisted in the Army in 1943, was appointed to West Point in 1945, and graduated from the academy in 1949. Later, Bill commanded a tank platoon during the Korean War in 1950 and 1951. He then served at First Army Headquarters on Governor's Island, New York until 1953 when he left the Army to join Sylvania Electric Products in New York City. Following Sylvania, where he served for 10 years in sales and advertising, Bill moved to a sales position with This Week Magazine and the to ABC where he served for 10 years in sales with the radio and television networks in New York. He then became National Sales Manager for WCBS Radio and Vice President in charge of Sales for the Mutual Radio Network, both in New York. Bill lived for 37 years in New York and Connecticut and has two daughters, Leslie Cummings of Los Angeles, California, and Susan Cummings of Ojai, California. Their mother, Carol, passed away in 1978. In 1981, Bill married Synnie Kaenel of Basel, Switzerland and Weston, Connecticut. They lived in Norwalk and Westport, Connecticut until moving in 1988 to Fort Myers, Florida where they have lived at The Landings. Arrangements have been entrusted to National Cremation & Burial Society.
