Be Thou At Peace

"Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit...A man full of God's grace and power."- Acts 6
Stephen, Your name suited you well. I am so grateful for you. You were the perfect big brother. You finished our chores when we were younger so as not to upset mom and dad. You didn't even yell at me when I snapped your pinewood derby car in half or when I opened all your baseball card packs to eat the gum. You were also a good role model for us girls. You were well-rounded- a good athlete, successful student, and strong Christian.
I am so grateful for all the memories we have- from our family trips to West Point to visiting you in Alaska for Thanksgiving to the last time you came to visit at Pepperdine. We love you.
I want you to know that your legacy lives on through Alex. He is so funny and curious, but with a sweet disposition. Everyone says he is a lot like you were as a kid. We will all tell him about who his dad was and the beliefs and principles for which you lived and died. We will tell him how much you loved him.
Stephen, you have also inspired me. You worked hard to achieve your goals, and I strive to emulate that in my life. You inspire me to try my best in everything I do and to not let fears get in the way of any desires or experiences I want to pursue.
In your last e-mail to me, 5 days before your death, you wrote, "I am praying for you." This just shows your heart. You were a servant in all areas of your life. While you were away at war, you were praying for me back here at home. Thank you for serving us and everyone in your country. We miss you and will always love you.
